Epuni School is an Enviroschool. This means we have made a commitment to creating a sustainable school and environment for our students and community.
Enviroschools is an environmental action based programme where young people are empowered to design and lead sustainability projects in their schools, neighbourhoods and country.
Senior students apply to be part of the Enviro Leaders Group. Those selected work with the lead teacher to plan and implement environmental programmes around the school.
Projects we have worked on
Community Garden
Every week our students have time in the Te Mara Kotahitanga, the school’s Unity Garden, learning about soil preparation, planting, weeding, harvesting seasons, and all of the elements necessary to create and upkeep a successful garden.
This is supported by a gardener from The Remakery (Common Unity Project Aotearoa).
Community Tidy Up
Each year, our classes head out into the surrounding streets of Fairfield and pick up the rubbish we find. We bring this back to the school and dispose of it, rather than leaving it out in our community.
Future Projects
Our Upcoming projects include the following:
Help us
Many of our Enviro Projects require additional support, especially with materials, resourcing, or specialist skills. You might have connections within the construction sector, particular areas of the environment, sustainable technology, or other areas which would help support the learning around our Enviro Projects
If you are able to help out any of our upcoming projects, please get in touch with the School Office or our Enviroschool Lead Teacher, Whaea Sarah – .
